● Dana Dunne discussed the business’ successful transformation into the leading online travel company in Europe on the centre stage at the Phocuswright Conference
● Revenue from travel ancillary products and services have increased sixfold since Dunne took over as CEO
● The company’s investment in machine-based learning is allowing seamless travel experiences for travellers while boosting business opportunities
Los Angeles, 19 November 2018: Travel and technology industry leaders gathered at the 2018 Phocuswright Conference in Los Angeles, California, and eDreams ODIGEO Chief Executive Officer, Dana Dunne, took centre stage where he was interviewed by Lorraine Sileo, Senior VP, Research and Business Operations at Phocuswright.
According to Dunne, the business is successfully implementing its revenue diversification strategy by offering innovative non-flight products and services to travellers: “Four years ago, we were selling less than 10 ancillary services for every 100 flights sold. Today, we sell over 60 additional products and services for every 100 flights sold”.
These ancillary products include “Flexible Dates” and the “Cancel for any reason” products, which offer unique flexibility to travellers as well as the more well-known bags and seat selection products. Dunne said: “We have created these products that allow customers to change their tickets, and we don’t restrict it to one airline, we allow them to do it with all the 600 airlines we work with. This type of service is unique, airlines can’t offer that. This is just one example of the products that are contributing to our growth”.
Dunne highlighted that the company’s goal is to continue improving its products and services by leveraging its scale and investing in technology: “We don’t want to build something good. We want to build something great for our customers and we now have the number one rated customer satisfaction in the industry.”
eDreams ODIGEO’s CEO also said that dynamic packages of Flight+Hotel bookings are a big opportunity. Customers tend to buy a flight before any other travel product, which allows the business to leverage its 30% European flight market share to offer complementary products without incurring additional marketing costs.
Dunne explained that the company’s mobile-first strategy is having great results, with more than 37% of bookings made through mobile. He said: “We have the number one mobile app in the industry and the business will continue focusing its development and innovation resources in this area”. He also highlighted that travellers are increasingly purchasing more complex travel products on mobile devices: “before, mobile bookings were more point-to-point and last-minute bookings. Now, as we grow our mobile booking share, we see more long-haul itineraries and more ancillary products booked on mobile which offers great growth potential for the business”.
